The Wild Steelhead is proud to join with Save Our Wild Salmon as a supporter of this year’s Free The Snake Flotilla, which is taking place on September 8th and 9th. This annual event is a powerful gathering of people to celebrate wild steelhead and salmon and call for the removal of the four deadly dams on the lower Snake River. With steelhead runs on the Columbia system at record lows and efforts to undo critical court decisions about the dams gaining traction in Congress, now more than ever we need to make our voices heard.
The flotilla is a chance to experience the majesty of the lower Snake River, learn more about why removing these four dams is essential to restoring steelhead and salmon, and send a message to decision-makers why these dams should be removed. These four dams impede steelhead and salmon from reaching the largest piece of intact habitat left in the Lower 48, which constitutes thousands of miles of pristine river habitat across millions of acres in southeast Washington, northeast Oregon, and Idaho. Meanwhile the benefits of these dams continue to decline dramatically while their cost to taxpayers soars and their destructive impact to wild steelhead and salmon escalates.
Please join the Free The Snake Flotilla and help send a loud and clear message that it’s time to remove these four outdated, deadbeat dams on the lower Snake River.
