Backstory: A lifelong resident of Washington state, Chris has been fishing for steelhead since he was a child. While he never intended to become a full-blown “Steelhead Bum,” many of his friends still call him that, with the ongoing joke that he lives and breathes-- but doesn't eat-- wild steelhead.

First Steelhead: Chris caught his first Steelhead by accident on the Quinault River at six years old. “That first Wild Steelhead,” he says, “changed my life.”

What He Does: With a degree in Aeronautics, Chris holds three Commercial Pilot Certificates and three Flight Instructor Certificates. He instructs Chinese Airline students and flies float planes in Bristol Bay Alaska. He has spent six seasons as a professional fly fishing guide at Alagnak Lodge, Tikchik Narrows Lodge and most recently Mission Lodge.

Personal Philosophy: “Spending the last 20 years chasing steelhead throughout Washington has shown me the perils these fish face, and how much they desperately need our help. Working for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife conducting Steelhead and Chinook by-catch research has solidified my passion to work on behalf of wild steelhead conservation.”
