Wild steelhead give us so much and ask for nothing in return, but they desperately need our help. This Giving Tuesday give back to the fish that gives us so much by making a donation to the Wild Steelhead Coalition.
In the autumn of 2017, British Columbia’s Thompson steelhead returns were estimated at under 200 fish, by far the lowest return on record. Please take a minute to encourage Fisheries and Oceans Canada to not repeat its mistakes in 2018.
During the 2017 legislative session, the legislature passed a proviso that directed WDFW to explore alternative structures for guide licensing. The legislative proviso instructed WDFW to hold public meetings on both the Olympic Peninsula and in the Klickitat River area, but the department has scheduled four additional meetings.
In May, we said goodbye to our dear friend Les Johnson, who was a steelhead icon and a founding member of the Wild Steelhead Coalition. Born and raised in the heart of Steelhead Country, Les devoted his life to writing about and protecting the iconic fish that captivated him throughout his illustrious life.
We are excited to launch of our new campaign Steelhead Country! The campaign is a collaborative creation that features a six-episode film series produced by Shane Anderson that explores the rise and fall of angling for wild steelhead in Washington and asks anglers to take action and bring back Steelhead Country.
To raise awareness about the legislation, Backcountry Hunters and Anglers released a short film that shines a light on the jewels of the North Umpqua and discusses the critical importance of creating the Frank Moore Steelhead Sanctuary.
