Speak Up about the Skagit

The famed Skagit River certainly needs no introduction but it does need your input. Over the next ten days, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) will be accepting public comments about their Skagit Basin steelhead fishery proposal. This comment period was prompted by the release of NMFS’s Proposed Evaluation and Pending Determination (PEPD) on the effects of the harvest of natural-origin steelhead in the Skagit River.

This comment period is an important, next step forward in the process of re-opening the Skagit and Sauk rivers for a spring steelhead sport fishing season. The robust recovery of the Skagit’s wild steelhead has made this proposal, which is supported by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, a real possibility. Please take a few minutes to review this proposal and submit your comments to NMFS before January 8th.
